Chief organiser of Park(ing) Day Sligo, Gillian Ni Chaiside is proud to have collaborated with Sligo County Council in bringing the Shelly Streets Parklet to Sligo this Autumn.
A favourite time of year of ours, when the evenings close in. As we begin to wrap up our limbs, nature sheds hers in exchange for some rest, but not before a stunning show of colour, harvest and joy. The Shelly Streets Parklet features many stunning autumnal hued plants, including the towering Acer Pseudoplatanus 'Atropurpurea, many native woodland saplings below; Corylus avellana, Sorbus acuparia, Pinus sylvestris & Salix. The lower level is speckled with the glorious red pops of Cotinus, feathery grasses, ferns and of course the darlings Rudbeckia hirta peeping through the surrounding foliage to wish us well for winter. We were delighted to be able to source all plants locally from Western Plants Nursery & Cannings Garden Ctr.
The Parklet has been designed and built in such a way that it can be efficiently dismantled, stored and relocated at a later date. The construction work was completed by local Carpenter + Civic Engineer Fergus Geelan.
This unique trial Parklet, presented by PARKing Day Sligo (www.parkindaysligo.com) incollaboration with Sligo County Council, is a public installation designed to inspire creative thinking and awareness about how we view and use our urban environment. The Parklet is the pro-bono design of Landscape Architect Gillian Ni Chaiside (www.faoinaer.com), and has been constructed with the support and assistance of An Taisce North West, & Cllr Sinead Maguire.
The Shelly Streets Parklet is a place to eat, rest, create, work, play, relax, celebrate & will be open to the public for a trial two week period this September. Everyone is welcome to stop, relax, linger, and enjoy "Shelly Streets Parklet" & the streets & sites of our beautiful city.
Kind thanks to all our valued supporters -
