PARKing Day Sligo

As part of the world wide Placemaking movement PARKing Day, PARKing Day Sligo was founded in town by Gillian Ní Chaiside of Faoin Aer in September 2015. A collaborative public realm enhancement project between the PARKing Day Sligo Group, Sligo CoCo, and supporters it is gaining great momentum in bringing about subtle yet valuable physical and attitude change for the better in Sligo's urban centre.

Shelly Streets Parklet

As an extension of the one-day PARKing Day Sligo event in September, we were permission by Sligo CoCo to occupy an on-street car parking space for a number of weeks last Autumn to creat a mini pop up park for everyone to use. 

Our Temporary Mini Park(let) was situated on Hyde Bridge outside the Yeats Building for a few weeks between September and October. It comprised of public seating and large planters full of native trees, shrubs & flowers, thus increasing public enjoyment of the space and increasing connectivity for bio-diversity within the city's core. It was a much used space that the public are excited to see return as soon as possible next year

BiG Street PLaY Sligo July 2017

A great first afternoon's creative public space activation by Faoin Aer, Branching Out + friends. Already looking forward to more nostalgic interactions on the streets tomorrow 12-2pm.
PLaYing - skipping, hopscotching, elastics, leap frog, hula hooping, Xs+Os, cards, boardgames; chess, draughts, etc.

Don't miss giant Tug O War on the blue bridge at 1.30!

They'll be at Park Fest Sunday 9th + Street FEST Sat 15th too :-)
